Eligibility

  • Rider should be able to ride in mountain terrain

  • Anyone above 15 years of age. 

  • The participant has to be in the good physical condition and possess the energy to accomplish 5 km in 30 min without feeling rushed.

  • The ascent should be possible with a 12- to 16-kg back load

  • Pulse rate at rest must be in between (60-90 per second)

  • Blood pressure reading must be between (Diastolic 75-85, Systolic 100-130 Hg)

  • Respiratory rate at rest must be in between (12 – 20 breaths per minuite)

  • Should not have liver and kidney issues

  • Should not have diabetics Mellitus, Asthma, Epilepsy, Heart problems, High BP

  • No pacemaker implant

  • Experience: Any high-altitude trek, at least one that is 5000 metres (16400 feet) in elevation or Multiday riding experience

Day 1

ARRIVAL DAY

Meal Plan: Breakfast and Dinner at hotel Stay: Hotel Delhi sightseeing Welcome to India! Upon your arrival at IGI airport in Delhi, our tour representative will escort you to the pre-booked hotel. After completing check-in formalities, you can rest and afternoon you will be visiting AKSHARDHAM and DILLI HAAT and walk around the neighbouring streets to be familiar with the culture of Delhi before sinking into the cosiness of your bed. Enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel in Delhi. Dinner time Our guide will brief you about the tour, after which you can interact with your fellow riders

Day 2

 DELHI SIGHT SEETING AND JOURNEY TO MANALI

Transfer : Journey to Manali by Bus Meal Plan: Breakfast and Lunch Stay : Hotel Delhi sightseeing After breakfast ready to explore India’s power-centre for a splendid journey where you can explore Delhi’s culture, history, food, market-place and monuments. Delhi, the country’s historic as well as modern capital, has been shaped by various empires from different eras. Exploring Delhi’s iconic monuments and heritage sites, immersing in its flavourful culinary delights and diverse traditions, visiting landmark sacred sites, soaking in its history and culture and shopping at busy marketplaces — these are just some ways to experience the capital city, one of the most visited places not just in India, but the entire world! Today will be visiting – Rajpath, Red Fort, Qutub minar, Lotus temple, India Gate, Parliament House and Connaught place. After sightseeing our representative transfer you to Bus station for an evening Bus to Manali

Day 3

ARRIVAL IN MANALI

Altitude:- 2,050m/6,700ft Distance from Delhi:- 530km, 13 hours Check in Hotel Expedition briefing by the Leader (Post Lunch, approx. 3:00pm) All telephone networks are available ATM is available Explore nearby area in the evening Visit Hidimba Devi Temple, Vashist Kund and other major sightseeing points (avoid Rothang Pass) Day Plan – Cycle fixing & Sight seeing After reaching Manali on the first day, your accommodation will be taken care of in a Hotel which will be arranged by TRA. Get done with your lunch after which you will get some time for interaction with your fellow riders. Your leader will brief you about the expedition which will include the safety measures and the regulations that need to be followed. Spend some time in the evening exploring the nearby area in Manali. Dinner will be served at your guesthouse.

Day 4

MANALI  - MARHI (11023 ft, 35 Km)

Altitude:- 3,350m/11,000ft Distance 35km, 7 hours Full ascent with lots of hairpin bands Route has a view of Pine and Deodar forest Start early in the morning to avoid the traffic of Rohtang pass Packed lunch on the way Phone networks are available Several shops on the way Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Camping After having your breakfast we will embark on your long awaited adventure. Marhi is approximately 35 km and on the way, you will come across some stunning views of pine and deodar forests. It is important to start our day early so that we will avoid the traffic at Rohtang pass. The route to Marhi has a lot of hairpin bends so it is important to be a bit cautious. The campsite at Marhi is a scenic place which offers some pretty views. We will be camping here for tonight and your dinner will be served at your campsite.

Day 5

MARHI – SISSU via ROHTANG PASS (13050 ft, 50 KM)

Altitude:- 3,100m/10,250ft (Rohtang Pass 3980m/13,050ft) Distance 50km, 7 hours Uphill till Rohtang(17km), Downhill till Koksar then gradual ascent till Sissu Phone networks are erratic Several shops on the way Check point at Koksar, keep your ID handy Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Camping From Marhi our next stop is Sissu via Rohtang pass. We start off our day by having our breakfast and then finishing 17km ascent to Rohtang pass, you will come across some spectacular views of snow-covered mountain peaks of Spiti valley. We will take a halt at Rohtang pass for some refreshment after which we will have to take the descent to Gramohu. Sissu is also known Khagling is a small town in Lahul valley on the banks of the river Chandra. At sissu, we will be camping for the night where you will be served your dinner. Relax after a tiring day because you will be up fresh the next day for new adventures.

Day 6

SISSU TO JISPA ( 10500 ft, 55 Km)

Altitude:- 3,200m/10,500ft Distance 55km, 7 hours First 10km gradual, next 20km uphill, rest is gradual ascent Going through Ghodhla, Tandi and Keylong On the way cross the confluence of Chandra and Bhaga river Phone networks erratic Packed lunch on the way Stay – Camping Meal Plan – B L D Today we will be riding all the way up to Gondla which is at higher elevation from Sissu. A gradual route from Sissu to around 8-10 km, where it gets climb for around 20 km or so later it stretches to Jispa. From Gondla we will be descending all the way to Tendi. After crossing Tandi we will go past keyling which is a low gradient all the way up to Jispa. It is advisable to drink lots of water at high altitude which helps to maintain the blood circulation. There will also be a support vehicle so that you can refill your bottles when needed. In the highway, you will come across freshwater streams which are cool and refreshing. Keylong is a village which is situated halfway between Sissi and Jispa. We will take some rest at Keylong where you will be having your lunch and then moving forward. As soon as you cross Keylong you will notice the change in the mountain ranges where the vegetation part is taken over by dry desert. Watch out for stones which are rolling down the road. After a few kilometres of uphill, we finally reach Jispa. On the banks of the river Bhaga. Jispa is a peaceful village in the Lahul Valley which is located 20 km north of Keylong. We will be camping here for the night

Day 7

JISPA TO ZING ZING BAR 14000 ft, 30 Km)

Altitude:- 4,250m/14,000ft Distance:- 30km, 6 hours All the way steep and gradual ascent Keep ID handy at Dharcha check point Deepak Taal on the way, nice place for relax No phone network Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Camping After having your breakfast we will be heading to Darcha which is about 10km from Jispa. The road climbs steadily on this route on the way to Patseo. You will have to be a bit careful on this road as it is rocky so it is important that you maintain the speed that you are comfortable with. You will start noticing less of civilization that you maintain the speed that you are comfortable with. You will start noticing less of civilization from here on and it will strike you that how disconnected this place is from other places. You will start seeing glimpses of the higher Himalayan range which offers a view of snow covered peaks. We will start getting altitude from here on and you will feel the cold so it is important to have proper layering of clothes. The final ascent is to Baralacha-la starts start Zing Zing bar. Your campsite will be pitched at some distance from ZZ bar where you will stay for the night. Hot soup will be provided to you before you have your dinner. It is important to get the much-needed rest before you set out for the following day.

Day 8

ZING ZING BAR TO BRANDY NALLAH via BARALACHA LA (16000 ft, 65 Km)

Altitude:- 4,200m/13,750ft (Baralacha La 4,890m/16,000ft) Distance:-65km, 8 hours Brandy Nallah is at foot hill of Gata Loops Uphill till Baralacha la then gradual ascent till campsite Suraj taal, Baralacha la, Killingsari, Sarchu on the way Sarchu marks as the border between Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir Packed lunch on the way Stay – Camping Meal Plan – B L D After having your breakfast we will have to start our day early today as it is a 65km stretch. You will sense that the entire surrounding changing in to a dry desert and there no signs of green. At a height of 15,900 ft Baralach pass feels cold with strong winds blowing from time to time. The serene flow of the river and the majestic mountains surrounding will amaze you for the rest of the journey. Take some time to click pictures and soak in the moment. After having your lunch we will be heading to Sarachu makes as the border between Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. The landscaper still remains the same as earlier with tall baron peaks surrounding you. The entire route then descends gradually to the wide Sarachu Planins. We will be camping at Brandy Nala for the night which is at some distance from Sarchu.

Day 9

 BRANDY NALLAH TO PANG vis NAKEE LA, LACHULUNG LA (16600 ft, 55 Km)

Altitude:- 4,600m/15,100ftNakee La 4,750m/15,550ft, Lachulung La 5,050m/16,600ft Distance:- 55km, 7 hours First half is uphill (Gata loops, Nakee la, Lachulung la) Second half is downhill with bumpy ride Packed lunch Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Camping Brandy Nala to pang is perhaps the most difficult day when we will be riding past the Gata loops which is a series of 21 hairpin bends that cover a distance of 7 km. We will be crossing Nakee La and Lachung is both on the same day and it would be one adventurous ride of your life. You will come across a board which marks as the beginning of Gate loops. As you climb higher the loops below are visible which look flat. You will be relived after crossing the loops as it takes a huge toll on your body and your fitness is tested as well. After having your lunch, we will go past Nakee is where the mercury level dips down. Pang will be our camping spot for the night.

Day 10

PANG TO DEBRING (15800 ft via, 50 km)

Altitude:- 4,800m/15,800ft Distance:- 50km, 6 hours First ¼ is steep uphill, rest is gradual (almost flat) Packed snacks and hot lunch at camp site Pang has an Army transit camp Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Camping Your day will start with a 7 km ascent to Taglang La which is followed by a long descent along a steep gorge to Pang. Moray plains which is at a height of 4700 mtr is an 8 km climb from Pang known for extreme temperature both in the morning and evening. You will come across some nomadic Chang pass who with their Yaks. Apart from them, there is no sign of civilisation. Tso Kar lake I the first choice of camping but in case the route is close we will have to camp at Debring which is at Tanglang La which is the world’s second highest motorable pass.

Day 11

 DEBRING TO RUMTSE via TANGLANG (17582 ft ,46 km)

Altitude:- 4,250m/14,000ft (Tanglang la 5,328m/17,475ft) Distance:- 50km, 6 hours Uphill till Tanglang la, rest is downhill Packed snacks and hot lunch at camp site Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Camping Today you will be facing a challenging climb which lead to the world’s second highest motorable pass Tanglang La. These are surely testing times and you will have to put in more effort than ever. But what we can surely promise you is that after reaching the top, there are few feelings that can match this. Before we start our descent to Lato village, you take some time to click pictures. The first view Lato is amazing and it will surely leave you spellbound. This will be stop for camping tonight. You can pay a visit to the gompas in Lato to get an insight into their culture.

Day 12

RUMTSE TO LEH ( 11500 ft, 75 Km)

Altitude:- 3,500m/11,500ft Distance:- 75km, 6 hours Packed lunch on the way All is downhill Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Camping We will leave Rumtse after having breakfast and our final destination which is Leh will be at distance of 75 km. As we will start approaching Leh. A stretch of dust brown mountains will start appearing from a distance. You have now reached the land of lamas. As you come down from Rumtse you will start noticing some vegetation before Upshi. After a while, you will start getting first glimpses of the Indus river which is quite a pleasing view. We will take a halt at Thiksey for lunch which is at a distance of 20 km from Leh. After reaching the guest house at Leh you will actually get a sense of satisfaction that you have completed the task which you started on Day 1 from Manali, We are sure that you will come back with lots of memories that cannot be expressed in words but will last a lifetime.

Day 13

 LEH TO KHARDUNG LA AND BACK TO LEH (17577 ft, 40 Km)

Altitude:- 5,359m/17,577ft Distance:- 40km, 6 hours All is uphill Come back by car Packed lunch Meal Plan – B L D Stay - Hotel Today we will be riding from Leh to Khardung la Pass, worlds highest motorable road around 40 km once reach Khardung La will come back by car to Leh hotel.

Day 14

LEH TO NEW DELHI

We wake up to bid adieu to our newly made friends with promises and hopes that we will cross paths in the future. Following breakfast, we drive out to the airport and take the flight out to Delhi and further to other destination Transfer : Leh to New Delhi by air Drive distance : 5 Km

SINGLE ROOM AND TENT

Booking a single room in Delhi /Leh during the trip will cost an extra 180 euros.

For an extra fee of 120 euros, a single tent may be rented for all camping nights.

Cycle Renting

The expedition fee does not include the bicycle charges. We highly recommend that you bring your own bicycle MTB. In case you do not wish to bring your own bicycle, you may rent it from us, at euro 150  for entire trip. 

Note: If you wish to rent the bicycle, you have to inform us, 20 days in advance before the departure date.

I’m not a good cyclist. Can I join your tour?

Yes of course- As an entity run by passionate bike enthusiasts, we want more and more people to start using bikes for everything from riding to work to enjoying leisurely expeditions. That’s why our expeditions are designed to allow the general public to enjoy the tour. We will be riding at a comfortable pace, for your convenience. Our tours are graded to give you an indication of the fitness level required. If you’re looking for something more adrenaline pumped, you can take part in our Bicycle Tours. 

Do you cycle in the hot season?

Cycling can be enjoyed in most weather conditions, including summers. Our tour operators will slightly change the schedule so that you can escape the blaring afternoon sun. We will include more water stops and cater to your requirements to make the tour a fulfilling one for you. 

When is the best time to book a tour?

Generally, the sooner the better, especially with Bike Tours and particularly when travelling with a group tours can be fill up quickly.

Who runs the Tours?

We do, unlike some companies with middlemen, and sales agents, we do it all. We dream up the tours, research the routes, collect data and the length of the journey, share the beautiful experience with clients, and then run the tours with a combination of our experienced year-round staff, service providers and local staff in the countries the tour travels through.

Do you cycle in the rainy season?

Yes, cycling in rainy seasons is quite comfortable. Our team will provide you with a poncho so that you can stay warm and dry throughout the ride. We will also equip all bikes with mudguards so that you don’t have a problem riding over any terrain. However, if the rain is causing poor visibility, we will stop for breaks or organize a backup till the situation is clear.

I have a restricted diet. Will you be able to provide specific meals for me?

We take extreme pleasure in making you feel at home. If you have certain dietary restrictions or allergies, please let us know while booking so that we can make culinary arrangements for you.

Will I have time to enjoy some of the interesting places along the route?

Absolutely, The tours have been designed to enable riders to explore some of the important places in the route. And since an average biking day will be five to seven hours, there will often be plenty of time to explore the local places on riding days as well.

Do you allow e bikes on Manali – Leh Bicycle expedition?

Typically the answer is “NO”

Should I tip and how much?

In general, tipping in cycling touring in all countries has become a custom. How much you should give is totally up to you, the amount available with you and your subjective opinion about the services you come across.

What do you mean by back up?

Our BTA  support van drives along our Biking route to offer light refreshments, water bottle refills and rides to those would like them when they get tired.

Do I need travel, Health and Medical Insurance

You must insure yourself, your bicycle and your belongings in order to join our tours. We will ask for your insurance policy details at the time of final payment. The crew are not medically trained but at least on member on all Tours has current First Aid and CPR qualifications. We will have basic First Aid supplies but it is your responsibility to bring any medications. Chemists will be available at the villages are pass through along the way. Medical clinics will be accessible in some towns and we will help as best able. You must also have travel insurance policy that protects both you, your belongings and your bicycle. You must consider the implications of an accident during your vacation and take these responsibilities seriously. Details of your policy must provide to us at the time of payment. Bicycles can often be added as an extra on most conventional policies

Is it Safe?

The answer is YES, but as with any adventure travel there is certain level of risk that everyone need to accept. It is important to respect the local culture and people and to observe the law while travelling. Your greatest problem is motorized vehicles, as it is for cyclists everywhere, so practising defensive and wearing appropriate safety/ visibility gear is essential.

What if I get sick or injured?

Our support vehicle can carry a limited number of riders and bikes. If you are sick or injured and cannot ride for a day or two you have the option to ride in our vehicles. At times, we have medic on our tours in more remote places where access to emergency services are limited. Medics are there to help with minor scrapes and bruises, and to assist in the event of an emergency. 

Is there a mechanic? What happens if I have a breakdown?

In all our tours, we have our own cycle mechanic that join the tour. Our cycle mechanic is around to offer any mechanical assistance that you may need. In the event that you have a major breakdown, we will try and keep you on the road by visiting local bike shops trying to find whatever parts are necessary. Where practical should you breakdown on the road, the mechanic will usually be along to help you out. As a last resort there will be always an extra bike in support vehicle.

Why are your prices are in Euro?

In general, the currency shown on each tour page corresponds with the accepted currency in the country/ countries where the tour takes place (with few exceptions) we buy the majority of our tours in Euros and it is simply cost-effective for you and for us. In this way, the price you see remains fixed. Only the exchange rate changes. We suggest using an online currency converter to estimate your cost.

What is the best way to Pay?

We now accept payment in Euros. Our EU clients can pay directly to our European account in Euros without any wire fees. Those from Australia, New Zealand and several other destinations can also pay in their own currency in to our European account using a transfer service. If you prefer to use a credit card, do note that we can only charge in US Dollars and a 4% surcharge will apply. 

How do you determine my Bike size?

When you are ready to submit reservation, you will be asked to provide your height so that our local outfitters can determine your correct size. If there is any additional information you feel will be helpful in determining the best fit, feel free to add that in the comment section of the reservation form.

We advise that when you are assigned your bike or when you pick up your bike, that you check it over thoroughly, take a test ride to ensure everything is working properly. That all included accessories are indeed accounted for, and everything is up to your standards before starting the tour.

Are Helmets included with Bike Rentals?

The answer is yes. Your own helmet is best for many reasons. It fits, It’s clean and you are accustomed to it. 

 What is the degree of difficulty of the trips?

We strive to offer a variety of tours that will please all levels of cyclists. The majority of our tours fall within the easy to Moderate level which means they can be experienced by the beginner as well as the cycling enthusiast. It is essential that you have experience in the saddle and that you are in good physical condition. 

To fully enjoy your bike tour, you should prepare, see each individual tour page for more details on its difficulty level. Our basis for categorizing our tours is below. Please remember that these general descriptions.

 

Easy: Flat terrain, Average daily distance approx. 30- 40 km

 

Easy to Moderate: Terrain is mainly flat with some sloping hills. A daily distance can sometimes exceed 40 km

 

Moderate: Terrian is made of rolling hills with some climbing involved. Itineraries frequently include two or more days with mileage more than 50 km.

 

Moderate to Difficult: Climbs are frequent and strenuous.

 

Difficult: Very hilly terrain such as you will find with our Himalayan Bicycle Expedition tours daily distance normally exceed 60 km, but not always. A very mountainous terrain but shorter daily distance will often times warrant the designation of Difficult.

 

Very Difficult / Challenging: Tours with longer distances and strenuous climb for eg Himalayan Bicycle Expedition.

Training guides and fitness

For our trips, we are often asked “what kind of fitness levels are required”? Of course, if you have booked a trip that is at the upper end of your capabilities, you want to know that you have done all you can to prepare. Unfortunately, these questions are often the most difficult to answer. Only you know your current fitness levels and capabilities and can prepare according to the options available to you.

 

When altitude is involved, your ability to acclimatize is going to have a much greater impact on your progress than your fitness. However, poor fitness and preparation is not going to increase your chances. In an effort to help you reach your active adventure goals, we’ve produced helpful Fitness Guides to help prepare for your trip

 

It is always best to make your preparation as close to the real thing as possible. Of course, it’s tough to replicate the major mountain ranges around the world, but make sure you include ups and downs if you are preparing for a mountain ride. If you are still unsure about your fitness, or the difficulty of the ride, we suggest you refer again to our grading system or talk it through with one of our experts and please download our Cycling Fitness Guide.

What kind of physical preparation is required for this expedition?

The practice schedule varies from person to person. If you are a complete novice to cycling & haven't cycled before, then it takes somewhat more sweating than the one who is a regular to pedalling. Since the expedition involves high altitude & uphill riding conditions, the practise schedule should include these aspects.

How much distance will be covered in a single day during the expedition?

The distance covered varies on each day depending upon the gradient of the route. The longest distance covered in a day is 75 km when its mostly downhill & the shortest is 38 km when it’s a complete ascent.

What kind of bike/cycle will be required for such expedition?

Any decent hardtail (with only front suspension) mountain bike with basic features will do the trick. The important thing to lookout for is the selection of right frame size according to your height. The bike should also have a good range of gear selection to negotiate the steep uphill climbs. For more details about the bike selection we can assist you on the same.

Does Bike and Trek Adventure provide bike/cycle for these expeditions?

We do not provide bikes but we can assist you in getting one on rental basis through our cycling partners.

What kind of biking gears do i need to carry for this trip?

You need to carry your personal biking gear like helmet, cycling shorts, cycling gloves, sunglasses & cycle lock etc. There is a detailed list of packing items which we will be sending across to you that includes clothing, accessories & other personalised items.

Do I need to carry bike spare parts for the trip in case if I am bringing my Bike?

There are few spare parts which can be unique to the make of the bike and hence the participants need to carry them. This includes spare tubes, gear cables, brake shoes, brake cables etc. A complete list will be provided to you. We will be providing puncture repair kits, air pump & common set of tools with the services of a trained mechanic.

Do I need to carry bike spare parts for the trip in case if I am bringing my Bike?

What if my bike breaks down in between the trip?

If your bike breaks down in the middle of trip, it will be fixed by the mechanic who will be a part of the expedition team. In case the damage is beyond repair we will provide you a spare bike. One spare bike per group is carried by us.

What are the options available if I am not able to continue the journey due to some injury or fatigue?

The expedition includes a backup vehicle which will be accompanying the participants at all point of time. If at any point of time you are not able to continue due to fatigue or injury, you can use the vehicle and resume your cycling when you are fully recovered.

Do we require any kind of special permit at any point in the trip?

Any specific medicines required to be carried for countering high altitude sickness?

In case you have a medical condition, please consult your physician before taking up this trip if you have any health condition, you have to carry necessary prescribed medicines. Medicines for all common ailments will be carried by us including all major first aid equipment that includes Diuretic drug namely Diamox and oxygen cylinders.

This itinerary allows for average daily distance of cycling approximately 30 – 50 km. This is designed to enjoy the cycling through the high altitude of Himalayas. The vehicle will accompany and en-route make stop for bottle water and snacks for the riders. A nice way of sharing different experiences encountered on the way. The support vehicle will always travel behind the last cyclist. If you wish to take a break from riding wait at the side of the road and supporting vehicle will pick you up.

 

WEATHER

 

The average temperature in Manali during summers is around 10-25 degrees and the temperature of Leh is about 15-30 degrees

All transportation included the cost (Including Delhi – Manali transfer & Leh -Delhi transfer) We offer backup vehicle throughout the  biking trip. The vehicle may be used to hold your baggage’s and yourself as required.

People with particular requirements are advised to bring their own Bicycles, pedals, shoes, saddle, helmet and cycling clothes.

 

CLOTHING AND GEAR WE RECOMMEND


We recommend cycling shorts, dry fit T-shirts or cycling jerseys, and firm footwear. Loose fitting dresses or flip-flops are unsuitable for a cycling tour. You don’t have to carry extra clothes during the rainy season, carry only a rain jacket.

 

Your safety is our priority. We advise our guests to wear a helmet at all times during the cycling part of the trip. We recommend our riders to apply a nice coat of sunscreen lotion. For added protection, you can use sun sleeves for your arms and buff headwear for your neck.

 

TYPICAL DAY OF THE TRIP

 

You will ride for about 6-7hours through the mountain terrain in the itinerary while also exploring the quaint lifestyle and the culture of Himalayan people while you ride.
