The Markha Valley Trek is a renowned adventure in Ladakh, attracting adventurers from around the world. This trek takes you through diverse landscapes, including the Hemis National Park and Rumbak Valley, offering a chance to encounter rare Himalayan animal species, such as the elusive Snow Leopard. The valley is also home to a variety of other fascinating creatures, including the lynx, Ladakhi Urial, Arghali, Blue sheep, Red fox, Tibetan wolf, Dhole, Marmot, and Mountain Hare. Birdwatching opportunities abound along this trail in Ladakh.

The Markha Valley Trek provides an immersive experience of indigenous culture, as it passes through isolated communities like Rumbak village, Yurutse, and Markha. Explorers may even have the opportunity to stay in a local household within these remote settlements. The trek also includes visits to shrines like Lhatos and Mani before reaching the picturesque Markha village. As the route ascends winding pathways to Kongmaru La at 5100 meters, trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the towering Kang Yatze Peak and the nearby Tibetan border.

The traditional Markha Valley Trek commences in Spituk and passes through Ganda La via Zingchen, concluding at Skiu. Skiu, a remote settlement, boasts an ancient monastery and the remnants of a medieval castle. It was once a resting place for the Royal family on their journeys to Srinagar. The trails from Skiu lead to Markha and continue through Kongmaru La, eventually reaching Shang Sumdo.
