About the event

                                                                          ABOUT THIS TREK

The Eastern Himalayas in Sikkim are renowned for their breathtaking vistas of snow-capped mountains, glacier passes, lakes, subtropical climates, and wildlife. Among experienced trekkers, the Goechala Trek stands out as a favorite choice.

With an elevation surpassing 4572 meters, the Goechala Trek takes you through dense alpine flora before entering a rugged, challenging terrain where freezing temperatures prevail. One of the highlights of this trail is the Kanchenjunga National Park, offering stunning sunrise views, picturesque meadows, an alpine lake, and a rich abundance of blooming flora in the highland forests.

Compared to other popular treks in the Eastern Himalayas, the Goechala Trek is not an easy undertaking. Experts have rated it as demanding, requiring trekkers to be well-prepared for various challenges.

Beginning at Yuksom (1780 meters), the journey to Goechala spans approximately 11 days, covering a total distance of 90 kilometers before returning to the starting point. While reaching the actual Goechala Pass takes longer, trekking beyond Viewpoint 1 is now prohibited.

The traditional route proceeds to Goechala Lake, known as Viewpoint 2, before ascending to the Goechala Pass at Viewpoint 3, which stands at an elevation of 4907 meters. However, trekking beyond Viewpoint 1 has been restricted since spring 2017 due to occasional sightings of the elusive snow leopard at Viewpoint 2.

From Viewpoint 1, trekkers can enjoy an up-close view of Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third-highest peak (8586 meters). The Goechala Trek is often compared to the most challenging treks in India due to its level of difficulty and the obstacles it presents.
